NASCAR Coca-Cola 600: Hamlin Dominates, Wins First
Record-Breaking Performance
Martin Truex Jr. made NASCAR history Sunday, becoming the first driver to win the Coca-Cola 600 from the pole position since Dale Earnhardt Sr. in 1994. Truex led 392 of the 400 laps and 588 of the 600 miles, both event records.
Crown Jewel Victory
For Truex, the victory was a redemption of sorts. He had led the most laps in four previous Coca-Cola 600s but had never been able to seal the deal. This time, he refused to be denied.
The victory was also a boost for Toyota, which swept the first four spots and put five of its cars in the top 10. Denny Hamlin, who started on the pole, finished second, followed by Kyle Busch, Erik Jones, and Christopher Bell.
